FAQ

How Do File Formats Work?

When you purchase a file from CNCFiles.com, you’re buying a digital design in a specific format. Each format is optimized for a particular type of software or machine. Click a format below to learn how to use it.

SVG / DXF

  • What it is: Vector-line files. “Vector” means the design is made of scalable lines and paths—not pixels—so it stays crisp at any size.
  • Use with: Most CNC routers, lasers, vinyl cutters, and CAD programs that read SVG or DXF.
  • What you’ll do: Import into your CAM or cutting software, set toolpaths, and run the job.

ART / Carveco

  • What it is: Native file type for Carveco (formerly ArtCAM). Can include toolpaths, reliefs, and other Carveco-specific data.
  • Use with: Carveco software for 3D carving and advanced toolpathing.
  • What you’ll do: Open directly in Carveco, edit as needed, then generate toolpaths for your CNC.

CRV / Vectric 12+

  • What it is: Project files for Vectric products (VCarve, Aspire, Cut2D) v12+. Typically include vectors, toolpaths, and sometimes bitmaps.
  • Use with: Vectric software v12 or later.
  • What you’ll do: Open the CRV file in your Vectric program, adjust settings if needed, then save and run your toolpaths.

STL

  • What it is: A 3D mesh file containing a model’s shape as triangles (no color or textures).
  • Use with: Any CAD/CAM that accepts STL, or slice it for 3D printing.
  • What you’ll do: Import to CAM, create toolpaths, and machine the 3D surface—or slice for printing.

RLF (Carveco Relief)

  • What it is: A 3D “relief” file specifically for Carveco—think carved surface ready for machining.
  • Use with: Carveco software.
  • What you’ll do: Open in Carveco, position and scale, then generate toolpaths and machine.

FULL FILE PACK

  • What it is: A complete bundle containing all of the above formats for one design.
  • Use with: Ideal if you use multiple software packages or want max flexibility.
  • What you’ll do: Download once, pick the format that matches your software, and go—no separate purchases needed.

Do the files come with instructions?

Yes. Every CNCFiles.com download includes a PDF with toolpathing instructions. This guide walks you through:

  • Opening the file in the appropriate software
  • Recommended bits and settings (if applicable)
  • How to generate or apply toolpaths
  • Tips for scaling or customizing the design

These PDFs are designed to help you go from download to cutting or carving with confidence—no guessing or hunting for setup details.

How Do I Download My Files?

Once you complete a purchase or membership download on CNCFiles.com, your files are available instantly in two ways:

  • Email Link: A download link is automatically sent to the email address you used at checkout.
  • Your CNCFiles.com Profile: Every file you’ve ever downloaded—whether you’re a member or a one-time purchaser—is saved to your personal download library. Simply log in at any time to re-download past files from your profile.

All downloads are delivered as zipped folders to keep everything organized. You’ll need to unzip the folder to access the design files and included PDFs.

How to Unzip Your Files

  • Windows: Right-click the ZIP folder and select “Extract All…”, then choose where to save it.
  • Mac: Double-click the ZIP folder and macOS will automatically extract the contents into a new folder.

After unzipping, you’ll see your design files and the included toolpathing PDF, ready to use in your software.

How Do I Import Vector Libraries?

Each software program handles vector libraries a little differently, so we’ve created step-by-step PDF guides to make importing easy.

Carveco

How to add SVG/DXF or RLF files into your Carveco library.

Vectric (VCarve / Aspire)

How to import CRV files or external vectors into your Vectric clipart library or open them directly in a project.

LightBurn

How to load SVG or DXF files into LightBurn’s Art Library for quick drag-and-drop use.

These free downloads show you exactly where to click and how to start using your purchased CNCFiles.com designs inside each program.
